Remind Me . . .

Hey Alexa, Remind Me to Use My Source

I woke up the other day and found myself wondering about yesterday, the day before, and all the things I needed to do for the day. As I slipped into planning my day before I started my morning routine—journal, prayer, and mediation—I paused for a moment to redirect my thoughts. I literally was about to overwhelm myself with a to-do list before I stepped foot out of bed. Like . . . girl, get it together.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Yet, in that moment, God got me all the way together and reminded me of Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

This Scripture immediately settled me, helped me clear my mind, and offered me the peace I needed to start my day. Instead, I thought about the things I didn’t accomplish the day before and wrote them down. Then, I asked God for the strength and the strategy to do everything I set out to do, at a reasonable pace for me. Most of all, I asked Him to forgive me for embracing anxiety before I embraced His direction to accomplish my goals. Let me just say, I felt much lighter.

I was lighter not only because of the Scripture God reminded me of; I was also reminded to use my source and take advantage of the relationship I have with Jesus Christ. Because . . . honestly this moment a few mornings ago could’ve gone wrong. I could’ve dwelled on the stressors of life and my to-do list in ways that left me totally unsteady and emotional for the rest of the day.

I’m a witness that sometimes life’s challenges can leave us unsettled and unsteady. But, this moment for me is a reminder that I need to continue to lean into the steadiness of God, even for something as small as my to-do list. So now, my simple daily prayer is—

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive me for not consistently looking to You for help. Help me to look to You FIRST whenever I need help and guidance. Remind me to run to you as my source and lean into your steadiness.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
